In order to replace the spoiler on your own, follow the steps:

  • Scratch off the any dirt or paint from the surface of the spoiler.
  • Have a closer look of the damaged area and look for dent, creases, scratches or cracks. You can use your hand to feel the depth of the dent on the spoiler’s surface.
  • Now you have to unfasten the mounting bolts on each of the side of the boiler to take it out of the vehicle.
  • You can either use a new pre-primed spoiler or repair the old one. This depends on the damage done to the old spoiler. If the damage is repairable, you can repair it.
  • If you opt for repair work, then you have to prepare the old spoiler well before reinstalling it.
  • Take damp 600 grit sandpaper and use it for removing any dirt, debris, grease or dust from the spoiler’s surface.
  • Apply primer to the damaged area and allow it to dry. Once it is dry, sand it again.
  • Use a basecoat of paint on the spoiler and later apply a thin, clear coat of paint and leave it to dry for some time.
  • Once the paint is dry, have a look on the paint surface and see whether there is any dirt or nibs stuck in the paint job.
  • For large dirt particles, use razor blade.
  • With the help of spray bottle, spray soapy water on the minor dirt particles.
  • Take 1500 grit sandpaper soaked in soapy water, sand the surface in a circular motion with slight pressure.
  • Replace 1500 grit paper with 2000 grit paper and repeat the same process.
  • In order to eliminate the swirl marks, apply compound polish to the spoiler.
  • Your spoiler is ready now and you can reinstall it by reversing the process.
